The core of our work is building community, both among the individuals and families in our programs and among the citizens and businesses of Montgomery County. This mission is realized through the work of our administrative staff and our board of directors.
Attentiveness to the needs of others—including her son's evolving needs—led Flo Nelson to become the executive director at Bridgewood Farms.
In 1982, Ms. Nelson was looking for a way to help her son, a special needs child, stay engaged after graduating high school. She became a coach for Special Olympics, she volunteered, and she sought employment at organizations devoted to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
As the organizations evolved, so did Ms. Nelson's place within them. When Bridgewood Farms moved to its current location in 2001, Ms. Nelson came onboard as the executive director, although she had been serving in this capacity since 1990. To this day, her son is one of nearly 200 active and involved clients at Bridgewood Farms.
